Everything You Need To Know About Riccardo Tisci
As most of you already know, Riccardo Tisci is the new famous creative designer at Burberry. At Folie we decided to bring you a little scope of his history in the fashion world.
Born and raised in Como Italy since 1974, his family was very poor and, having 8 sisters, he had to work since age 12. By the time he was a teenager he was already designing patterns for Missoni. During the late 90’s he decided to move to London where he, with the help of a scholarship, attended the prestigious Central Saint Martins College.
He landed his first contract with Puma, which he later decided to drop. It was her close friend, super-model Mariacarla Boscono, who pushed him into launching his first line. From then on he was in the global fashion scene!
Givenchy hired him for his first haute-couture in 2005. His complex designs, usually influenced by gothic and mythological patterns have been an icon for the brand since then.
His style has been based under the principles or artistocracy, irony and chic. He usually hangs with famous artists like Modonna, Liv Tyler, Marina Abramovic and models like Naomi Campbell, Joan Smalls and Lea T.
However he has never forgotten his humble beginnings, always supporting his big family and nephews. In 2017, after 12 years in Givenchy, he abandons the brand for the head creative director of Burberry, where he joins Marco Gobbetti.
